How to make sense of and navigate the world ? It’s all a matter of mindset – A collection of thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and habits.

The way you think about yourself and your abilities, the way you talk to yourself.

Ideally, I think our mindset is influenced by our environment when we are kids. Encouragement, support and building of confidence in young minds will foster a growth-mindset.

Growing up the way I did, I came with a lot of baggage. No confidence, a lot of negative self talk, the feeling of never being good enough. When I hit my personal low, is when everything changed for me. Something in my mind clicked and it was the feeling of : this is your make or break moment. You either decide to go for it or this is it. It was like flipping a switch.

With that mindset, of deciding to get healthier, to work on myself came the long needed change. It wasn’t the usual …. “oh, I’m going to try.” or “I will start this on Monday” or “I don’t know if I can do this, but I give it a go”. It was : “I know I can do this ! Let’s go !”.

One of my favorite quotes is by Henry Ford and it sums up Mindset perfectly : “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”

Things that were so hard to do, became easy. Since my bad habits didn’t fit my new mindset and did not help me accomplish my goal, it became easy to say NO !
With that came a set of new healthier habits, more confidence in my ability to say no, more conviction in seeing this through.

If we are really honest with ourselves, we know what the right thing to do is. We know what changes we have to make in our lives. And it’s never easy to take these first few steps. BUT it does get better. And it is so worth it !
